EHS/IMS Incident Reporting

Business solution for incident and accident involved reporting

Tracking Safety

A mobile app designed specifically for field hands working on job sites and general employees that require any accidents to be reported. In compliance with EHS and IMS, we wanted to create an app that would give the business a better way to track ‘incidents’ through an integrated management system, and create an easy, streamlined way for the user to record/report them.

Business Goals

By implementing a standard course of action through accident reporting, the business wanted to improve overall health and safety in the work place. This would serve to help the business by promoting confidence from both a leadership perspective as well as the employee, through monitoring performance, and behavior, as well as providing insights into risk assessment, and accident prevention.

The Project

I worked with a small team of iOS developers, a Product Analyst and a Project Manager. I created wireframes, user-flows as well as Hi-fidelity UI designs - to communicate the vision, design and interaction. This helped to share the ideas, gain alignment and drive the decision making.

Research & Insights

One of the largest issue with reporting an incident or ‘near miss’ was the difficulty to report - confusing paperwork or a convoluted processes, and through all this remembering the details. The application needed to be designed in a way that would give the user the quickest and easiest path to completion, while being able to provide accurate details of the incident/accident. Also we found that color deficiency was something a bit more common in the field, than what we expected. Taking into consideration the Busy, chaotic job sites, lots of movement and action - and almost always outside in the elements - these things played a key role in the overall design, functionality, with our focus on easy and simple to use.

Laying Out The Experience

Flowchart

Working with the business analyst, I first gathered all the requirements that needed to be in the application. Then creating a user flow - to better understand the content, the expectation and the flow to visualize the interaction and usability.

Design and Ideation

The goal of this project was to give the users a streamlined experience in the case of an incident to move swiftly and accurately through the reporting phase. We wanted to make completing the process as painless as possible as well as intuitive.

Wireframing Concepts

Easy Accessibility

By giving the employee a way to complete the report on a mobile device, at anytime helped workers deliver more accurate information in a much more easier and complete way. I developed hi-fidelity UI designs and feature prototypesto expand on usability and functionality to flush out new ideas for interaction design with the developers.

Photo, Audio & Video

One of the features in regards to a more complete and accurate way of reporting the information that needed to be collected in regards to any incident was giving the user the ability to attach a file, audio recording or video would give both the user and the business a better and more thorough insight and understanding of each incident.

Notifications, Pending and History

We also wanted to give the user the ability to track what they’ve done and when they’ve done it. Notifications to alert the user reporting an incident, and how many reports. A history in the app gives the user a recourse as well as an informative view of past reports.
